Virtually at the High Peak of technology

One of the roles of the ICT Hub is to hold up shining examples of where technology is being used as a powerful force for good, but not to force that technology (or ICT) for its own sake.

As regular readers know I’m always on the lookout for infrastructure organisations such as CVS’ using new media tools in clever ways as part of my work for the ICT Hub at NAVCA.

So I was intrigued to hear that High Peak CVS at their AGM and fifth birthday party were planning to set up a blog website to record the day, partly as a technology showcase and also for those not able to be there. This is one of those examples of where innovative use of ICT has enabled the local CVS to be inclusive and enhance the services that it has been able to provide to all its members.

The event took place last week and I feel after reading Tony’s blog, watching the video clips, looking at the pictures and reading Kevin’s presentation notes that I was almost (dare I say ‘virtually’) there.

Like others I couldn’t be there, but this package of technology has made me feel part of the event. The tools and websites used are not expensive and just need a bit of planning and set-up before the day. This could easily be something transferable to offer to other CVS’ for their AGMs and with enough notice and advertising could take live comments and questions from isolated communities.

Well done Tony and all your assistants at the CVS and in Digital Umbrella, Happy Birthday and I wonder what the technology will be enabling you to do on your 10th Birthday?

One downside though …. how do I get my share of the cake?!!!
