31 Days to a Better Blog – Day 31 : SWOT

Its the last day of the challenge and firstly a few thanks.31 days to building a better blog

To Darren for producing such interesting challenges each day, to Michele who set the band of bloggers off on the challenge and to Laura who started with Day 1 and handed the baton over to me part way through (if anyone is following her blog!)

I guess as Day 31 I should have expected something meaty to finish … and to keep me busy well into September, therefore i’ll just post the key point to address in each area, it may start off your train of thought for your own blogs.

A SWOT analysis – sounds like something awful from a Dilbert cartoon or management-speak; however Darren in today’s post takes you in great details through the four stages to review your blog.

The first thing to do is to define why I blog, what is the blog here for. This I hope I have answered on Day 28 in the mission statement.

1. Strengths

This is the only blog to join up the work of the ICT Hub with the regional ICT infrastructure providers and ICT champions. The blogroll is a good central point to find links to other VCS ICT bloggers.

2. Weaknesses

Personally I never get enough time to blog resulting in some posts not being as complete as I would like (e.g. squeezing this in at 23:15 before the deadline of midnight on 31st August!), I know I aslo need to revisit the first 21 days of the challenge.

3. Opportunities

The UK voluntary and community sector has the potential to grow and use ICT and new media tools to “do better things” and “do things better”. I would never claim my blog is a driver in making this happen, but maybe it has done/is doing a little in shaping this.

4. Threats

Due to the ad-hoc nature of blogs and blogging there is every chance someone else could set up a blog tomorrow that set out to achieve the same aims as mine. In this open Web 2.0 world I’d like to think there would be some collaboration in the content and linking; but the ‘threat’ is always there.

So that’s it for the challenge; however for me and as a result of the SWOT I need to revisit Darren’s first 20 or so posts that Laura blogged and apply them here. I hope you’ve found the tips useful and worthwhile in making your blog a better blog. I’ll be busy as Tim has also got me thinking about a wiki project idea … oh and there’s my ICT Hub Infrastructure work!

Happy weekend.

  1. Congratulations on making it with 45 minutes to spare. I have to admit I didn’t quite slip the SWOT analysis in within the 31-days… perhaps later this week…

I’m glad your SWOT pointed to your blog-roll. I’m just having a good browse though… :)

  2. Congratulations Paul for making it across the finish line, in reverse direction :) and it was good to see that I was not the only one getting it done just before midnight.

I am sure our families think we are crazy. On another note, an apology! Since you joined the challenge – work, home and travelling, have made my life crazy and I realised that I had not added your photo to the challenge page on my site. Please accept my apologies. Will go and sort it out!

  3. Thanks Tim and Sue.
